Gone are the days of the old fuses. It’s the modern era of MCBs & mini MCBs.

MCBs are the lifeguards of your house. It is a revolutionary product introduced by the electrical industry to protect that expensive wiring from an overload of current or short circuit.

Now obviously this is a revolutionary product but we can just rely on any MCB, to begin with. All MCBs you’ll find out there look almost exactly the same but all of them are not reliable.

Let’s just say that all MCBs are only reliable if you are buying from a trustable brand, just like us 😉.

But why should you care? When you can always rely on the contractor or the electrician to choose them for you. After all, they will choose the “best” for you.

Well, it is always recommended to be self-aware and make an informed choice so that you really choose the best which becomes all the more essential in the matter of electric goods.

And this article is directly aimed at people like you to make an informed decision about the electricals that you are going to have fit in your home.

So read on!

First What type of MCBs are out there?

To begin with there are 3 types of MCBs

Type B – This one trips 3-5 times on full current load.

Type C – This one is for heavy-duty machinery using industries and trips at 5-10 times the current rating.

Type D – And this one is really the one that takes the maximum loads on the very high currents which go up to as much as 10-20 times of the rated current.

So according to your requirement choose the best MCB only from the best and branded MCB Manufacturers in India.

How to choose an MCB that matches your load?

Now that you know how essential it is to match the load with the MCB you are purchasing, you must be thinking about how to choose one that matches your load.

It will actually have to be calculated which is quite simple.

All you have to do is note down and sum up the wattage of all the appliances or electronics which are connected to the wiring that goes through the MCB frame.

Divide the sum of wattage with the voltage we receive at home (which is normally 220V). The figure you get is the current of all the devices you are going to use.

Now since you’re not going to use all the appliances right now. We will have to factor in them as well. So make sure you play safe by picking up 85-90% of the total current of the appliances that you are going to use.

Never, we repeat, never pick MCB that has a lower ampere rating on someone else’s advice or to save your money. One is not supposed to save money on Electricals. Always invest in high-grade electrical accessories, just like people do when they buy electrical switches.

Now there’s your buying guide so that you can make a smart decision on buying MCBs that are high-grade and of superior quality.
